There’s No Single Right Answer
Shinya, throughout this collaboration, you’ve put a lot of thought into how each coffee pairs with the bagels. But rather than insisting that only the recommended coffee works, I noticed you also embrace flexibility. How do you see this balance?
Shinya:
"I don’t believe there’s only one right answer when it comes to pairing coffee and bagels. Coffee is incredibly diverse, and sometimes, unexpected combinations lead to exciting discoveries. Of course, I put effort into finding the best possible pairings, but even when something seems like an unlikely match, it can turn out to be surprisingly harmonious. That’s why I like to keep an open mind and explore different pairing possibilities."
So, in a way, trying the same bagel with different types of coffee can be a fun experience in itself.
At WA-BAGEL, we hope you’ll continue to enjoy these pairings even at home. If you bring our bagels and Hiyori’s coffee beans home, you can recreate your own tasting experience. That said, the flavour might be slightly different from what you tasted at the event. If the brewing isn’t perfect, is it difficult to fully enjoy the roasted coffee’s intended flavour?
Shinya:
"I don’t think so at all. More than trying to extract the 'ideal' potential of the beans, I believe the most important thing is finding a flavour that suits your personal preference. Even small changes in brewing methods or conditions can result in significantly different flavours.
Rather than worrying about getting it exactly right, I hope people enjoy the process and discover their own 'this is it!' moment. Of course, showcasing the roast’s qualities is important, but more than that, I believe what matters most is creating a cup of coffee that the drinker truly enjoys."
At the event, you can purchase bagels individually and Hiyori’s coffee beans in convenient drip bags. Beans can also be ground to your preferred coarseness right at the venue. This can be your special and unique gift to bagel or coffee lovers!
